Quaternary glaciations of the Himalayan-Tibetan orogen–status: ongoing (2019–2021)

In this study, we are reviewing the status of Quaternary glaciations in the high-altitude mountains of the Himalaya and Tibet. We are reanalyzing/recalculating all the published cosmogenic (e.g., \(^{10}\)Be, \(^{26}\)Al), \(^{14}\)C, and luminescence ages of the glaciated landforms used to reconstruct past glaciations and paleoclimatic changes. Using advanced statistical tools (e.g., PCA, P-CAAT), reconstructed ELAs, and paleoclimatic models, we are updating the status quo (i.e., the timing and magnitude) of Quaternary glaciations in these Central Asian mountains.
